Proto and MCS Security Solutions have agreed a partnership to bring AI agent infrastructure to financial institutions and enterprise clients in Botswana and across the broader Southern African region.
MCS Security Solutions is a cybersecurity specialist with established relationships across Southern Africa's financial and enterprise sectors, bringing the technical credibility and institutional reach to introduce new capability at scale.
Botswana at the centre of the partnership
Botswana is a key focus for the partnership, as the country's financial sector deepens its investment in digital infrastructure and regulators raise expectations around consumer protection and service accessibility. The partnership draws on Proto's existing presence across Africa – including deployments with financial regulators and institutions in Namibia, Rwanda, and Mozambique – to bring a proven set of AI agent capabilities to clients across the region.
Dr June Jeremiah, Co-counder and Lead Cybersecurity Manager of MCS Security Solutions said: "Consumer protection and complaints infrastructure is becoming a regulatory expectation, not a differentiator. This partnership means we can give our clients a practical, production-ready solution – built on a platform with a real track record in African financial markets."
Where the AI agents will be deployed
The deployment focus spans several of the workflows where Proto has the deepest track record in African markets. For financial institutions and payment operators, this includes AI agents for frontline customer engagement across WhatsApp, SMS, and USSD – reaching customers whether they are on a smartphone or a basic feature phone – as well as structured complaints intake, case routing, and resolution tracking that helps institutions meet regulatory obligations without scaling headcount proportionally. For regulators and supervisory bodies, it includes consumer protection infrastructure: AI-powered complaints triage, dispute escalation, and the real-time visibility across incoming cases that market supervisors need to identify patterns and act on systemic issues. Where anti-scam and fraud response is a priority, Proto's platform can support coordinated response workflows – helping financial-sector participants trace, flag, and escalate cases within the windows that matter.
These capabilities are designed to operate in the language environments customers actually use. Proto's platform supports local language processing and can be configured to serve users in the languages spoken across Southern Africa, ensuring AI-powered services are genuinely accessible rather than restricted to English-speaking users.
Curtis Matlock, CEO of Proto, said: "Southern Africa's financial sector is at an inflection point. Regulators and institutions are under real pressure to demonstrate that digital services are fair, accessible, and responsive when things go wrong. MCS brings the market relationships and technical credibility to put that infrastructure in the right hands – and our existing track record across Africa means we are not starting from zero."
